There are many online template platforms you can use to build a website, with Wix and Squarespace being at the top. Which one would be best for your project? Both have their pros and cons. Wix is initially going to be easier to get the hang of because the interface is more user-friendly. Squarespace, even though it will take a bit longer to learn to use, shines because the templates are more elegant looking and are better for image heavy sites.

Both sites are in a similar price range: Wix charges between $0 (there will be ads) and $39 a month and Squarespace is between $16 and $46 a month. You can purchase a domain from both sites, and both sites offer SSL security, custom favicons, and accept custom code. Wix supports 90 languages and Squarespace supports 6.

Let Webtyde help you decide if Wix or Squarespace is right for you

If you are building an Ecommerce site, this is where Wix really shines. Wix has a vast amount of apps and capabilities for Ecommerce, such as integration with Amazon, Etsy, and Yelp and gift cards. Squarespace also offers Ecommerce sites and has features such as label printing and abandoned cart recovery.

Wix also has a slight edge over Squarespace in its SEO options. Wix offers Page Title Tags and Meta Descriptions for every page and template, whereas on some templates, Squarespace does not. Wix also has an in-site analytics app and is generally easier to integrate with outside analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel.

Given its focus on appearance, Squarespace would be better for smaller businesses and portfolio sites for artists or musicians who aren’t going to hire a professional to build their website. The templates look very polished and stylish, even in the hands of a beginner. However, if you’re looking to get a simple website up quickly and have no experience at all, Wix will be better for you because it’s faster to learn to use, and it also wins with it’s SEO and Ecommerce features. By hiring a web designer to build you a Wix website, you can achieve an elegant, professional appearance while also taking advantage of the added functionality.
