The official Google Webmaster Central blog just announced they are labeling mobile-friendly websites in their mobile search results. Not only is Google trying to make the search experience better for their visitors by delivering websites viewable on their smartphones/mobile devices, this means your website better be mobile-friendly if you expect to be seen in mobile search results.
What is Mobile-Friendly
Here is Google’s description of what they consider “mobile-friendly”:
- Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
- Uses text that is readable without zooming
- Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
- Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
This will not be an issue if you have a responsive website that doesn’t use Flash. Webtyde Digital Marketing now builds basic customized template WordPress websites for search engine marketing clients that are responsive and meet the criteria above to be labeled as “mobile-friendly” in Google mobile search. These websites are part of our local SEO packages for small to medium size companies in need of a reasonably priced website that is highly visible.
Is Your Website Mobile-Friendly?
If your company is producing your website yourself, here are some valuable tools Google suggests to use to check if your current website meets their mobile-friendly criteria:
- Check your pages with the Mobile-Friendly Test
According to comScore research, mobile search exceeded PC Internet usage for the first time in history earlier this year in January 2014. It is very important for search engine optimization and marketing to have a responsive site for your visitors to view on their mobile devices.
