Mobile SEO Mobile-Friendliness

While many people take into consideration all forms of mobile-friendliness when designing and optimizing a website for search, some do not.  Not only is a mobile-friendly design and coding extremely important, the on-site mobile SEO must be implemented as well.

Mobile-Friendly Test

The first step is to determine if your website is mobile-friendly according to Google.  You can visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ and put your website address in.  Here is an example of the Webtyde Internet Marketing website and how Google rated our website:

A responsive layout for your website is very important and recommended by Google.  For specifics on what Google considers to be mobile-friendly, see the Google Search Webmaster page for Mobile SEO configurations.  Responsive design allows your site to be viewed in different devices without losing the message or quality of the website.  Remember, people are viewing your website on any device from mobile, tablet, desktop, all the way up to large screen TVs and projectors.  Responsive design covers all the screens rather than just desktop and mobile.

If you are unable to create a mobile SEO responsive website, you have options.  You will need to either serve dynamic URL by utilizing the HTTP response header to determine the URLs for the user’s device, or you can have separate URLs for different devices.  An example is www.example.com or m.example.com.  The www is for desktops or laptops and the m is specifically for mobile devices.  You will need to make sure each/all versions of your website are all current at any given time, and have a canonical reference in the HTML code.  That way Google won’t think you have two or more versions of the same page, which equals duplicate content.
